What is SALT?
Serving and Learning Together (SALT) is a year-long cross-cultural service experience for Christian young adults aged 18-27 years old from the United States and Canada. Participants live with local host families, serving in a variety of assignments with partners in Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin and Central America and the Middle East.
The placement process starts each January for a term that runs from August to July. Applicants are encouraged to submit applications early, before February 15 for the best placement selection and service consideration in the same year.

What other expenses are SALTers responsible for?
Costs related to pre-service medical, optical, and dental exams, inoculations, and visa expenses.
Why do I have to fundraise?
All applicants are encouraged to engage in active fund-raising in order to develop a wide prayer and support network invested in the service experience. As the average MCC costs related to a SALT assignment exceeds $11 000 US, MCC encourages contributions above the minimum contribution goal.
What if I am unable to raise the full amount?
MCC strongly believes that finances should not be a deterrent to service. MCC has defined funds available to supplement the expected SALT minimum contribution for individuals representing the church's diverse constituency with financial need. If the SALTer has problems raising the minimum contribution, s/he should contact the SALT Coordinator who will help identify a way forward.
